On Monday, April 14 we will have our CWA Luncheon & General Meeting at 11:30 am in the Dining Room of the Clubhouse.  This month we are presenting a program to encourage you to think in a different way about your outdoor space, whether it be a patio, courtyard or yard. Lucy Davenport of Bonsai Akira Nursery will be coming to speak about the joys of bonsai trees and how native Northwest plants can be used in this ancient garden art. The luncheon will feature an Asian themed buffet lunch catered by Nortons. Reservations are being taken in the book in the Activity Center closet until Thursday, April 10 at noon. The cost is $32/members and $37/guests. Remember to be sure to hand your check to Kristine at the desk or place it, clearly marked, in the slot by the Activity Center doors.

Have you been to the theatre lately.  Join us at the Monday, March 10th luncheon for a fun and engaging presentation featuring Dan Murphy the Managing Director of Broadway Rose Theatre in Tigard. It will be held in the Clubhouse Dining Room. Norton’s will cater a savory buffet including sirloin tips, mashed potatoes, creamed spinach, salad bar, rolls, butter and dessert.

The February CWA meeting will be a Valentine Tea.  It will be held at the regular time of 11:30 am in the Dining Room of the Clubhouse.  We will have a menu of tea sandwiches, scones and other teatime goodies catered by It’s Party Time.  We will have wine service available too.  Our program that day will be a historical enactment by Mary and Mike Hutchins titled, Mrs. Pittock and her Chauffeur.  Georgiana Pittock and her husband Henry were very important figures in early 20th Century Portland.  They built the beautiful Pittock Mansion which today is open as  museum.  The program will focus on the time of the early days of the mansion which was built around 1915.  Mrs. Pittock considered the founder of the Portland Rose Festival and so her memory and works are dear to northwest gardeners. However, her interest and influence extended beyond roses and we will hear more about her work in Women’s Suffrage and other issues of her time.

The sign-up book is open in the closet of the Activity Center.  Note your check number or “cash” if paying that way. Be sure to hand your payment to the receptionist at the desk or place it (clearly marked) in the drop box right near the outer door to the Activity Center.  The cost is $32/members and $37/guests.  The deadline for sign up is Thursday, February 6 at noon.

Mary Hutchens (a retired teacher who has 18 years in community theatre portrays Mrs. Pittock) and Mike Hutchens (former Portland Public Schools administrator) portrays her chauffer as they tell stories of Georgiana and Henry Pittock.  The Pittocks endured the Oregon Trail and were integral to the growth of the city of Portland, Oregon. The story includes the dangers of the wagon trains, the growth of the city, Portland as the Rose City, the Lewis and Clark Exposition, and the first Rose Festival.

 There are those New Year’s resolutions as well as more time at home to tackle some chores that we have been thinking about and putting off.  With that in mind, the theme of the January 13th luncheon was Lighten Up and Let It Go.  Our speaker was Deborah Ulrich from The Move Makers, a company with a goal of helping with organizing, downsizing and moving.  To get us thinking and motivated  a mini “drop and swap” event at the luncheon was held. Members were invited to bring a small item that they no longer want. Leftover items were donated at local second hand shops.

The menu was a light Italan buffet catered by Nortons.  There was soup and salad as well as pasta and shrimp scampi and dessert. The cost was $32 for members and $37 for non members.

The time for holiday magic  is near.  Join us for a CWA delightful holiday brunch . The festivities will be December 9th at 11:30 AM.  Be entertained by the Dicken’s Carolers and enjoy a yummy buffet which will include a carving station, pastries, quiches, egg dishes, charcuterie trays and Mimosas catered by Nortons.  The cost is $40 for members and $45 for non-members.

CWA is hosting a Happy Hour for members on Monday, November 4th from 4 – 6 pm in the Dining Room of the Clubhouse.  There is no charge for this event but you must be a CWA member to attend.  Happy Hour will be catered by Norton’s and will feature an assortment of appetizers.  There will be wine service and a non-alcoholic beverage.  Our theme is “Thanks for the Members”.  It is a way of recognizing the importance of our members and giviing them a little complementary treat.

If you haven’t yet joined CWA this year, it is not too late.  Dues are $30 for the year and we will deduct the $5 additional charge if you have payed to attend the September or October luncheon as a guest.  There are membership forms in the front of the CWA book in the Activity Center Closet.  The completed form and check can be handed in at the desk or placed in the slot near the Activity Center doors.

 Although there is no charge you must sign up by Thursday, October 31 at noon.  We need an exact head count for the caterers for this.  The book is open for sign ups in the Activity Room Closet.

It is time to get together again as a club.  The first luncheon of the year will be held on September 9 at 11:30 am in the Clubhouse Dining Room.  Norton’s of Wilsonville will cater this luncheon.  The cost is $32 for members and $37 for non-members. MaryJo McCloskey, Girls’ Golf Coach at George Fox University and author of When Girls Win will be our speaker.    Come to hear her inspiring and entertaining talk, “Raise your Vibe with Coach MJ” and you will come away with some ideas to be applied to your own life. Our theme for the day is “Good Vibrations” and that can be our theme for the year too.

Our October 14 Luncheon invites us to say “Hello Autumn” as we get together for a buffet lunch. It’s Party Time will be the caterer.  The cost is $32 for members and $37 for guests.

This month our guest presenter is Sig Unander, a historian and professional public speaker who has worked in both broadcast and print journalism. We will hear about Claire Phillips, who hails from Portland, but was living in the Philippines during WWII. She was recruited to spy for the United States and through her efforts to obtain information and aid prisoners of war, she lived a life of danger, drama, triumph and tragedy. Despite capture, she managed to survive the war and write an account of her harrowing experiences. Hollywood made a movie based on these accounts. Isn’t it amazing that most of us have never heard of her? The deadline for signing up for this event is Thursday, October 10 at noon. Look for the sign-up book in the Activity Center closet.

Lemon and Limes and Daisies are the key components for a relaxing, enjoyable May event.  The CWA invites you to a spring Happy Hour  on May 13th at 4PM in the Clubhouse Dining Room.   Heavy hors d’oeuvres to include, but not limited to, stuffed mushrooms, fruit skewers, shrimp, and charcuterie trays will be catered by the Market Cafe.  The Cost is $10.00 for members, $25 for non members.  The sign up book is in the Activity Center Closet.  Give checks to the front desk or drop them in the slot at the front of the Activity Center. The deadline to sign up is May 9th at 12:00 PM.

I bet you have seen a little crocus or early daffodil pushing up through the beds in your yard or around the Activity Center. Yes, the days are getting noticibly longer and now we can at least begin to “think spring”.

At the March 11 CWA luncheon fashion experts from The Difference, a boutique women’s clothing store in Lake Oswego, will present a program on transitioning our winter wardrobe into spring. Lunch will feature a Lasagna Buffet catered by Market Cafe. The cost is $32 for members and $37 for guests. The sign-up book is already available in the Activity Center closet. BRRR! In this cold dark time of year it will be nice to gather with our fellow Charbonneau friends and share a little visitiing time together.It is now time to sign up for the CWA January Luncheon. It will be held January 8 in the Clubhouse at 11:30 a.m. We will be enjoying a casual buffet lunch with sandwiches, pasta and green salads, fruit and dessert catered by The Market Cafe. Bauman’s Nursery staff will be coming to present a program on what we can do during the winter and very early spring days to get our planting areas and even our pots ready for spring.  Even if you are not much of a gardener, it is nice to think about spring and flowers at this time of year!

CWA Presents a Fall Fashion Show.

This event will be held on September 18th, 11:30 in the Clubhouse.  The cost is $40 for members, $45 for non-members.

CWA Members have reservation preference until Aug. 24 th. Non-Members may make reservations only Aug. 25 or later. All Reservations must be made by Noon Sept. 7 th . If we are sold out there will be a wait list.

A Summer Happy Hour will be held  on Monday, July 17 from 5 – 7 pm in the Pavilion.  There is no charge for this event and you do not need to be a CWA member to attend.  We welcome all ladies to come to socialize for a few hours and enjoy a glass of wine or ice tea and some appetizers.
