Our October 14 Luncheon invites us to say “Hello Autumn” as we get together for a buffet lunch featuring pork tenderloin as the main course. It’s Party Time will be the caterer. The cost is $32 for members and $37 for guests. Our by-laws stipulate that anyone eligible for CWA membershp may only attend 1 event before paying dues for the year. So, if you attended as a guest in September, you must join CWA before coming to any further lucheons or events. The dues are $30. If you attended the September luncheon as a guest and join this month, you can pay $25 for dues (the guest fee for the luncheon makes up the $5) There are membership forms available in the Activity Center closet and you may hand your check in at the desk or put iit in an envelope marked “CWA” and place it in the slot by the Activity Center door.
This month our guest presenter is Sig Unander, a historian and professional public speaker who has worked in both broadcast and print journalism. We will hear about Claire Phillips, who hails from Portland, but was living in the Philippines during WWII. She was recruited to spy for the United States and through her efforts to obtain information and aid prisoners of war, she lived a life of danger, drama, triumph and tragedy. Despite capture, she managed to survive the war and write an account of her harrowing experiences. Hollywood made a movie based on these accounts. Isn’t it amazing that most of us have never heard of her? The deadline for signing up for this event is Thursday, October 10 at noon. Look for the sign-up book in the Activity Center closet.
